Let us start by saying this:
One of the most important life skills anyone can have is the ability to bounce back.
Life’s got a lot of curveballs and nowadays, sweepers, so being able to adapt and adjust to constant change and uncertainty will allow you to gain control of your life.
If you’ve landed on this blog then you’re probably looking for ways to improve your life. Like you, we’ve spent many years scouring the Internet looking for strategies to improve our productivity, manage stress, and sleep better. This blog is the result of the lessons we’ve learned over the years, growing individually and together, and a compilation of what we hope will help you on your journey.
But before we get into the nitty gritty, let me tell you a little bit about who we are and why we’re here.
My name is Jessica and I’m a 32-year-old teacher turned content writer who’s been to hell and back and has gained some life-changing tips and tricks to make life more manageable. My partner, Kevin, is a digital nomad and derivatives trader, also in his early 30s, who has made it a mission to optimize life’s greatest hacks.
When we met in 2019, we both came to the table with a TON of baggage, and no, not the good kind that you check in when you’re headed on a beachy vacation (well it is, if you’re checking into The White Lotus).
We both struggled with depression and anxiety, and I guess we just gravitated toward each other because we were both running away from our own problems. Despite suffering from the same conditions, Kevin and I are very different people with our issues manifesting in very different ways and each of us having very different coping mechanisms. I know, this sounds like a recipe for disaster, and in the beginning, it sure seemed that way.
But throughout our time together, something happened.
We realized that if we wanted to build a future together, we had to start with ourselves, healing from our own trauma and growing out of our old ways so that we can build a path forward.
This doesn’t mean that we were able to flip a switch and just decide, “We’re going to be more healthy, productive, and happy!” Not at all. This process felt more like taking two steps forward and 10 steps back. ALL THE TIME.
We started by creating new habits, one at a time, which was painful at first and we constantly gave up on them. But what changed was that even if we fell off the wagon, we were determined enough to get back on each time because we knew we were getting closer and closer to making real and lasting changes.
Routines are not sexy.
This quote from Rick and Morty, one of our favorite shows, best encapsulates what this really means:
“…the thing about repairing, maintaining, and cleaning is; it’s not an adventure. There’s no way to do it so wrong you might die. It’s just work, and the bottom line is some people are okay going to work, and some people, well, some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose.”
People often think of routines as boring and repetitive, and at first, we saw that too. But once it started working, we saw the beauty in developing routines; how productive we became, how much better our bodies felt, and how much more freedom and extra time we had to do what we enjoyed. Bad habits were successfully developed, but that means that good ones can too.
And you know what? Those two steps forward will be more frequent and will compound every time, eventually surpassing the 10 steps backward.
We knew we just had to trust the process while giving each other the grace and space to adjust.
Like you, we’re just trying to find our way through this busy and chaotic world, and we’re just lucky enough to find each other along this path.
